Dear WASTELESS Community,

We are pleased to bring you the latest updates from “WASTELESS – Waste Quantification Solutions to Limit Environmental Stress,” our ongoing project funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation programme (Grant Agreement n° 101084222).

Here are the highlights of our recent developments and achievements:

Events:

  • On March 5th-7th WASTELESS, represented by ISEKI-Food Association, participated in the FOOD 2030 Networks Conference on Transformative Food System Innovation in Brussels, Belgium. This conference was an excellent opportunity for cross-project collaboration on shared goals for transforming the agriculture and food system.
  • On April 16th-18th, our partner CNTA represented WASTELESS in the Food 4 Future World Summit, the largest European Congress on innovation technology in the food and drinks industry.
  • On April 19th, we hosted the 1st of manysessions ofWASTELESS Monthly Café Talks on Food Loss and Waste (FLW).  This is a wonderful occasion to bring together experts and stakeholders to discuss FLW.
  • On April 25th-26th, WASTELESS partners reunited for the 3rd GA Annual Meeting in Brussels, Belgium. This meeting, hosted by EuroFIR on the first day and Europatat on the second day, was an excellent opportunity to discuss the project’s progress, share insights, and engage in productive and exciting discussions.
  • On May 7th, after months of work, it was officially launched our WASTELESS project video! Explore it to learn more about the project.
  • On 23rd-24th, WASTELESS project was presented at the Europatat Congress in Brussels, during Europatat’s Sustainability Commission.
  • On June 17th-18th, we organized a successful 2-day webinar with our sister project FOLOUon “Current Developments in Food Loss & Waste Reduction“. This event united several experts to discuss the current status and latest developments in four Food Loss and Waste topics, Policies, Tools, Practices, and Valorisation, offering invaluable insights for a more resilient food ecosystem. Tools:

We are excited to finally announce the launch of our WASTELESS partners’ FLW tools:

Computer Vision-Based Image Analysis Tool by HACETTEPE, Automatic System for FW Assessment at Household by JSI, and Surplus Stock Measurement and Management Tool by FAZLA.

Scientific publications:

We are pleased to share the publication of three more articles by UTAD, resulting from the work carried out under the WASTELESS project, namely “Nutraceutical Potential of Lentinula edodes’ Spent Mushroom Substrate: A Comprehensive Study on Phenolic Composition, Antioxidant Activity, and Antibacterial Effects“, “Characterization of Sodium Alginate-Based Films Blended with Olive Leaf and Laurel Leaf Extracts Obtained by Ultrasound-Assisted Technology“, and “Evaluation of the Effects of Food Safety Training on the Microbiological Load Present in Equipment, Surfaces, Utensils, and Food Manipulator’s Hands in Restaurants”.
