News from the SecureFood project

The Horizon Europe project SecureFood supports the ambitions of the EU Green Deal, Farm to Fork, and Biodiversity strategies by taking a systems-thinking approach towards building a more resilient and secure food supply chain. By bringing together scientific research, stakeholder collaboration, and advanced digital tools to assess risks and vulnerabilities across the entire food value chain, SecureFood aims to develop two key frameworks—one for managing food system resilience and another for collaborative governance—to guide evidence-based, cross-border decision-making. These frameworks will be tested through real-life case studies, helping ensure that food systems across Europe are better equipped to withstand future shocks and ensure food security for all.

The SecureFood project recently marked its 18-month milestone with a vibrant plenary meeting of the consortium from across Europe in the beautiful setting of Chania, Crete. The two-day gathering showcased major progress in SecureFood’s mission to strengthen resilience in food systems, including published findings on food security drivers, vulnerability models, and a high-level reference architecture.

Participants also took part in a hands-on workshop to co-develop the SecureFood Living Lab and SecureFood School, two crucial initiatives of the project designed to raise awareness, empower food actors, and deliver interactive learning across the food value chain. With strong collaboration and knowledge exchange at its core, the plenary reaffirmed the project’s commitment to shaping innovative, inclusive, and science-based solutions for a more secure food future.
