Today we observe the World Food Day, one of the most celebrated days of the UN calendar. This collective action, which is celebrated across 150 countries worldwide in up to 50 languages, aims to raise global awareness of hunger and promote action for the future of food, people and the planet.
This year’s theme, “Right to ‘foods’ for a better life and a better future” will build on hundreds of events and outreach activities worldwide that call for action throughout the month of October. As an example, the FAO organises today a global ceremony in Rome (Italy) at 10h CET with the participation of high-level speakers such as the Director-General of FAO along with the heads of the Rome-based UN agencies and other guests will participate in the ceremony, including a special message from Pope Francis and the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres. The Ceremony will be webstreamed. More information about the event is available here.
At WASTELESS, we are fully committed to fight against hunger by reducing food waste along the food supply chain. Project’s partners are currently carrying on different case studies along the food supply chain to test for example measuring tools in food processing companies, in local and big supermarkets, in public services such as schools and universities, and of course, at household level. New updates regarding these case studies will be published soon, stay tuned!
